“Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum” is located about an 8-minute walk from Kamakura Station. However, since there is no parking available, we recommend visiting by means other than a car. The museum was established on the former residence site of Nagamasa Kawakita and his wife Kashiko, who made significant contributions to the development of cinema. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions of film materials, screenings, and access to film-related resources through browsing and web searches.

The building features traditional Japanese architecture, and within the calm atmosphere of historic Kamakura with its sukiya-style design, visitors can enjoy lectures, seminars, and workshops.

Inside, you will find books and magazines themed around cinema, as well as nostalgic pamphlets, all set in a relaxing space with comfortable sofa seating where you can enjoy not only movies but also coffee, bread, and books.

The films shown are not the latest releases but carefully selected by the owner, Takenaka. With a library of over 3,000 books and delicious bread and coffee, it is highly recommended to visit at least once! In addition, by checking the “CINEMA NOTEBOOK,” where visitors share their favorite films, you may discover new movies to enjoy.
