The 77th Kamakura Fireworks Festival

The Kamakura Fireworks Festival began in 1948 and will celebrate its 77th edition this year. Cherished for decades as a beloved summer tradition, the event had been canceled in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. It was once suspended due to usage restrictions at Shonan Port, but since last year, it has returned and now lights up the summer night sky for the second consecutive year!

This year’s event will be held on Friday, July 18, from 7:20 PM to 8:10 PM, with approximately 2,500 fireworks launched from Kamakura Beach (Yuigahama & Zaimokuza Beaches).

The highlight of the Kamakura Fireworks Festival is the underwater fireworks launched from boats moving across the sea. Spectators can enjoy both fan-shaped fireworks bursting across the ocean surface and beautifully rounded shells blooming in the night sky—an unforgettable experience! Don’t miss it!
